Construction of Bethel Teaching General Hospital was started on 07 Jun, 1998 and it has been operational since 2000. The Hospital is currently providing its health care service 24 hrs both in out patient and in patient departments. Investment cost and capital of the hospital including the medical college is planned to be 47,729,600 Eth. Birr. Out of this target plan one of the project is already completed with a cost of Birr 16, 000000. The remaining investment capital is planned to be allocated on part two-expansion project.

Currently the Hospital runs its services in a five-storey building meeting the standards of health establishments and with capacious, naturally -lit, strictly sanitized wards and rooms meeting the special demands of clients/patients. The medical college conducts its activities in a separate three-storey building in the same compound.

Expanding its services that started with obstetrics- pediatrics, now the huge hospital boasts a multitude of services in many specialties and subspecialties. To mention some :-
